Now I can drink water anywhere. As long as the water is cold it will taste great thanks to the carbon filter. I use it to drink the water from the fountains at school, so yes it does serve a purpose even if you aren't a survivalist.
Literally a lifesaver. You can fill your bottle from a stream and drink it without worry. I bought my Lifestraw for a trip to Costa Rica. The water in Costa Rica is safe for the locals but it can cause intestinal issues for visitors. I could fill the bottle with tap water and drink it through the lifestraw filter. Even so, I tried to stick to bottled water but when I didn't recognize the brand I would pour the bottled water into my Lifestraw and let it go through the filter. Works slick. The lifestraw will remove virtually all organic material, parasites and bacteria. It is NOT intended for mixed drinks or beer (do I have to even say that?) But the ability to remove bacteria from water is huge because that's what causes most illness related to water. Be aware that Lifestraw will NOT filter most chemical contamination or heavy metals (lead, copper, mercury, etc). If your water source is that bad just stick to cerveza :) Caution: Lifestraw will NOT filter viruses - they are just too small. Viruses need to be killed by heat or UV or various chemical treatments. Water usually doesn't contain viruses that cause serious illness in humans in North America however that's something to be aware of when you travel. For example, Polio, Hepatitis, Norwalk and tons of other viruses can be found in water in various 3rd world countries. Lifestraw won't help avoid any virus so it's not a cure-all by any means. But for the casual weekend hiker in the back country it's perfect.
After buying another filter bottle with suspect reviews I paid more for one of these. Expensive but the quality of components is telling. Filtering is excellent. Recommended.
I do not travel without it. I had the old style and every sip tasted like plastic. The new 2-Stage filter completely remedies this problem.
I took a trip to Cuba. You cannot drink the water there. I was there for 9 days and completely relied on this bottle. I always filled it right from the tap. I never got sick. Not once! I shared it with my grandson who is under 2, and he was fine too. I would highly recommend this bottle to anyone. I've been bragging about it already. Love!
